Firmware Recovery Guide

· By Media La Vista

Firmware recovery is your last resort when a SpinetiX player won't boot normally. This is rare — SpinetiX firmware updates include automatic rollback on failure. But in edge cases (power loss during update, corrupted flash), you need a recovery procedure. SpinetiX provides USB-based recovery that restores the player to a known-good firmware state without requiring special tools or factory service.

Recovery Scenarios

Scenario 1: Failed Firmware Update

Power was lost during a firmware update. The player boots to the previous firmware (automatic rollback). If rollback succeeds, simply re-attempt the firmware update with stable power (use UPS). If rollback fails, proceed to USB recovery.

Scenario 2: Boot Loop

The player repeatedly starts booting and restarts. LED blinks in a cycle without reaching normal operation. This indicates firmware corruption. USB recovery is required.

Scenario 3: Player Unresponsive

LED is on but no display output and no web interface access. Try a simple power cycle first (unplug for 30 seconds, then reconnect). If unresponsive after power cycle, try factory reset (hold reset button 10+ seconds). If still unresponsive, USB recovery.

USB Recovery Procedure

  1. Download recovery firmware from SpinetiX support (or your distributor)
  2. Prepare USB drive: FAT32 format, copy firmware file to root directory
  3. Power off the player completely (disconnect power cable)
  4. Insert USB drive into the player's USB port
  5. Power on — the player detects the recovery USB and begins installation
  6. Wait — LED pattern indicates recovery progress (2–5 minutes)
  7. Remove USB when LED indicates normal operation
  8. Verify via web interface — check firmware version and status

Common Mistakes

  1. Pulling power during firmware update. The most common cause of firmware issues. Always ensure stable power during updates — use UPS. If power is unreliable, schedule updates when power is most stable.
  2. Wrong USB format. USB drives formatted as NTFS or exFAT won't be detected for recovery. Format as FAT32 before copying the firmware file.
  3. No content backup. If USB recovery wipes content, you need to republish everything. Maintain content backups in Elementi/Arya so you can republish quickly after recovery.
  4. Panicking before trying simple steps. Before USB recovery, try: power cycle → reset button → web factory reset. Many issues resolve with a simple power cycle.

Firmware Recovery Guide FAQ

My player won't boot after a firmware update.

SpinetiX players have automatic rollback. If a firmware update fails, the player rolls back to the previous working firmware on the next boot. If the player still won't boot, try a USB recovery.

How do I perform USB recovery?

Download the recovery firmware from SpinetiX support. Copy it to a USB drive (FAT32 formatted). Insert the USB drive into the player's USB port, then power cycle the player. The player detects the recovery firmware and installs it automatically.

Can I downgrade firmware?

Yes. The player web interface allows uploading any firmware version. Go to System > Firmware Update, upload the older firmware file, and the player installs and reboots. Content is preserved during downgrades.

The player is in a boot loop.

A boot loop indicates a firmware corruption. Use USB recovery to restore a clean firmware. If USB recovery fails, the hardware may need servicing — contact your SpinetiX distributor.

Does firmware recovery affect my content?

Standard firmware updates preserve content. USB recovery may or may not preserve content depending on the recovery mode — check the specific recovery instructions. Always maintain content backups for disaster recovery.
