Yes. The important detail is credential handling: the credentials stay inside HUB and are configured once by an admin, so no operator or content editor ever holds access to the underlying BI system. Data lands on the screens automatically, with regional data storage available for GDPR compliance.

Do I need a server or middleware to run data-driven digital signage? +

No. SpinetiX players natively parse JSON, XML, RSS, CSV, and iCalendar directly from the data source — the parsing happens on the player, not on a server in between. That means no middleware to license, no VM to patch, no extra infrastructure to fail, and no server-side processing tier to size as the network grows. It also removes a whole class of outage: there is no central box whose failure blanks every screen at once.

Can I update digital signage from a Google Sheet or an Excel file? +

Yes — this is the most common automation on a first deployment, because the data usually already lives in a spreadsheet somebody maintains anyway. SpinetiX players read Google Sheets, Excel Online, and plain CSV natively. Through native calendar integration — Outlook, Microsoft 365, and Google Calendar are read directly by the player, which renders real-time room availability, the current meeting, and upcoming bookings. No one updates anything: the booking system is already the source of truth, and the screen is a view of it. Microsoft Teams auto-start is supported, so a booked room can bring up its own call.

How do you trigger digital signage content from an external system or sensor? +

Several ways, depending on what is doing the triggering. The RPC API gives any external platform direct player control — reboot, screenshot, status query, firmware update. AV control systems (AMX, Crestron, Q-SYS) and smart-building buses (KNX, BACnet) integrate natively, so a room, a sensor, or a control panel can change what is on screen. What if my data source uses a custom API that no signage platform supports out of the box? +

Then you write it yourself, on the player. Years.
